Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista is back in the boxing mix! After winning a 12-round unanimous decision against Antonio “Barrio” Meza last December 2 at the Araneta Coliseum, Boom Boom proves once again that he is one fighter you don’t want to mess with.

Boom Boom

Battling in front of a very supportive Filipino audience, Boom Boom fiercely trades blows with Meza, who seems unfazed with the strong punches from his opponent. But eventually, the match would be decided with the scorecards - which are all in favor of Boom Boom’s fantastic performance.

Another Filipino boxer would also reign triumphant in the ring as AJ “Bazooka” Banal successfully beats the tough Jovanny “Bambino” Soto in nine rounds via TKO. Using his menacing fighting skills, Bazooka overcomes Bambino’s explosive punches and counters with devastating crosses and uppercuts that eventually sends the Mexican to the floor.

These impressive wins boosts the records of our Filipino boxers, with Bautista having a 24-1-0 (17 KO) line while Banal has 16-0-1 (13 KO).

The Visayas region are rocking more than ever as their representative band, Lazy Susan, tops the recently concluded 2007 Nescafe Soundskool Battle of the Bands. Besting 12 other groups coming from different parts of the country, Lazy Susan jammed their way to stardom and earned a contract from EMI as well as P250,000 in cash.

The Finals, held last November 10, 2007 at the Philsports Arena, was packed with thousands of young audio fanatics, each supporting their own favorite finalist. They were also in for a treat as the country’s top bands peformed their radio hits. Local groups such as Callalily, Mojofly, Moonstar 88, Imago, Urbandub, Coffebreak Island, Sugarfree, Spongecola, Hale, Pedicab, Rivermaya, Sandwich, and Itchyworms played along with the finalists, much to the delight of the crowd.

Topping the night were performances from perennial chart toppers Bamboo and Parokya ni Edgar. Audiences left their seats to get closer on stage just to watch Bamboo Manalac and Chito Miranda bring about their musical talents for everyone to see.

Lazy Susan will definitely jam alongside these Pinoy greats in the future. Watch out for them in the coming months and don’t be surprised to hear their compositions in your radio soon enough.
